Armed Robbery at Abington Rite Aid

A man with a hand gun robs the London Road/Old York Road Rite Aid late last night.

A man robbed the Rite Aid in the 1400 block of Old York Road in Abington just minutes before it closed last night.

According to Abington Police Deputy Chief John Livingood, a white man, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, a black scarf over his face and dark gloves, stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the office of the Rite Aid.

Livingood was at the scene along with another officer until about 11 p.m. — about an hour after the robbery and about an hour after the store was supposed to close for the night.

“No shots were fired and nobody was injured,” Livingood said. “He went into the office and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.”

Livingood said the suspect acted alone and fled; no vehicle was seen leaving the pharmacy, which is off of London Road.

There were a total of three workers in the store at the time of the robbery — two women and a man. Livingood said the suspect took the man into the office.

“This would shake anybody up,” he said.

Livingood said they are “working on video surveillance” but added that the suspect was pretty well covered up.
