Moderating a comment stream, especially a vibrant and emotionally charged discussion like this one, is more art than science.
Every Patch editor has a slightly different take on comment moderation. Speaking for myself, I bend over backwards to avoid being a censor whenever possible. This means that I don't try to force people to be nice or to be pleasant.
As usual, the most questionable comments here have come from anonymous commenters. I think anonymous speech is important and requires protection--sometimes it's the only safe avenue available for those who want to speak truth to people with power--but some people in this discussion have abused the anonymity we provide and are simply using it to be mean-spirited.
This is disappointing, but even these comments have not, for the most part, violated our Terms of Service. The ones that clearly cross the line have been deleted.

ReplyGirl Scouts still sell cookies door-to-door in my neighborhood in Limerick Township, but I know that mall booths and other sales methods have gained popularity as safety concerns have grown about children soliciting homes.
I'd be interested to hear more about what the "norm" is in other municipalities around Montgomery County.

Jamie, I totally agree. I visit the Manderach playground with my girls often enough, but I'm sure we go more if we could walk or ride over there on a nice day.

A much better viewing opportunity than Sunday night. My daughters and I managed to track it until it was only 15 degrees or so from the northeast horizon, when it winked out of sight as a dim red ember.
