Manor College, Arcadia, Penn State Abington Get 'Graded'

The White House released the College Scorecard, with looks at loan repayment, costs, graduation rates and more of the nations colleges, including Manor College, Arcadia University, Penn State Abington and more.

After President Barack Obama's State of the Union Address in February, the White House has released the College Scorecard. According to the WhiteHouse.gov website, "College Scorecards in the U.S. Department of Education’s College Affordability and Transparency Center make it easier for you to search for a college that is a good fit for you." -- The average student at Arcadia University pays $24,200 a year, after grants and scholarships. A decrease of 2 percent from the institution’s 2007 to 2009 tuition costs. Families typically borrow $22,600 in Federal student loans for undergraduate study, and make payments of $260 a month over 10 years. Arcadia to Hold Forum on Rwandan Genocide

The forum is part of the school’s International Peace and Conflict Resolution master’s program.

Arcadia University will hold a free forum, “African Solutions to African Problems: Healing after the Rwandan Genocide,” on Monday, April 8. Originally developed in Rwanda and Burundi, the program brings together 20 people from both sides of the conflict – 10 Tutsi and 10 Hutu – in a workshop aimed to restore normal relationships and begin a process of healing and reconciliation. Facilitated by Amy Cox, Administrative Director of the IPCR, and Theoneste Biximana, Co-founder and Coordinator of Healing and Rebuilding Our Communities (HROC), the three-hour workshop will begin at 6:30 p.m., in the Grey Towers Castle Rose and Mirror Rooms. ‘Touch the Future’ Art Show Features Abington Senior High Exhibits

The juried art show is currently exhibited at Arcadia University and features 28 Bucks and Montgomery county public high schools.

Abington Senior High School art students are currently are showcasing their work at the 26th-annual juried “Touch the Future” art show, open now until March 14 at Arcadia University in Glenside. The annual exhibition consists of artwork from public high schools in Bucks and Montgomery counties, and features artwork of every creative medium. According to an article on Abington Patch, the Mideastern Region of the Pennsylvania State Education Association (MER/PSEA) and the Council for the Advancement of Public Schools (CAPS) sponsors the art show, which began as a way to honor Christa McAuliffe, “the first teacher in space, who perished aboard the space Shuttle Challenger. Montco Commissioners Take ‘Conversations’ to Arcadia

The commissioners will hold a meeting tonight.

  The Montgomery County Commissioners will hold the third of their “Conversations with your Commissioners” program tonight at Arcadia University. A Friday night fire heavily damaged a condominium complex in the Wyncote section of Cheltenham, forcing up to 150 people from their homes. As many as 200 firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and other responders assisted at the scene on 1600 W. Church Road, near Arcadia University. Arcadia U. Gets New Athletic Director

From Hoboken to Glenside

  Brian Granata will be Arcadia University’s new director of athletics and recreation. Granata was the assistant director of athletics at Stevens Institute of Technology — a job he has held since 2005  While there, his teams rose in the NCAA rankings, going from number 59 to 13 in the country in the 2010-11 NACDA Learfield Sports Director’s Cup Division III final standings. “Under our retiring Athletic Director, Shirley Liddle, Arcadia came to dominate the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC), and she then moved us up into the Middle Atlantic Conferences (MAC),” Arcadia President Carl Tobey Oxholm III said. “Under our next Athletic Director, we are intent on becoming a powerhouse in the MAC. Arcadia University inaugurated its 20th president earlier this week.

  Carl Tobey Oxholm III will take the controls of the university in Glenside. He was intalled in a ceremony at the university on Saturday.  According to a press release, Oxholm started his legal career in Philadelphia and worked with the Philadelphia Solicitor’s Office. He also worked at Drexel University, where he led the acquisition of MCP Hahnemann University and the creation of Drexel Law.
