Looking to Help Victims of the Willow Grove Fire?

Abington Citizens and Police Together (CAPT) is accepting donation money for the Willow Grove family that lost its home in a fire last night.

  Abington Commissioner Peggy Myers said she is in the process of organizing a plan to get aid to a Willow Grove family that lost its home in Wednesday night’s fire.  The fire, in the 1900 block of Osbourne Avenue, started at about 8:45 p.m. and caused heavy damage to the building, though the structure is intact. See the initial story here. The fire displaced five people including a 10-year-old boy, a 4-year-old boy, a 2-year-old girl and the chidren's mother and father. The mother and the children were attending a church function when the fire started, and the father was out of town, according to Abington Fire Marshal Ken Clark. Myers said the family had an informal lease on the home and was looking to purchase the property.  The family …

Willow Grove Fire Displaces Five

A fire last night in the Willow Grove section of Abington was under control quickly, but left five people homeless.

Fire and EMS crews responded to a fire last night at a house in the 1900 block of Osbourne Avenue in the Willow Grove section of Abington. The call came in at about 8:45 p.m. Abington Assistant Fire Marshal John Rohrer said the fire was under control quickly — about 10 minutes — and said that no one was home during the fire. “Roslyn Chief Dale Jonas and two police officers were among the first to arrive on the scene,” Rohrer said. “There was heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear windows of the house. It was a quick knock down and there were no injuries.” A North Hills resident actually placed the call to 9-1-1.
