Roslyn Fire Displaces One

Fire breaks out in Roslyn.

  Fire crews from Abington, Roslyn and Weldon fire companies responded to a fire yesterday morning at a bungalow-style house in the corner of High and Pershing avenues.  According to Abington Fire Marshal Ken Clark, the call came in at 10:13 a.m.  "The first on the scene saw fire and smoke blowing out a front-bedroom window," Clark said. "The fire was under control in about 8 to 10 minutes." Clark said one man lives at the house; he evacuated safely and went to a neighbor's house, who called 9-1-1. No one else was injured.  According to Clark, the house's bedroom sustained significant fire damage. The rest of the house suffered smoke damage. Clark said the house will likely be rebuilt.  Wood cabinets and furniture were strewn on the corner…

Machines Cause Two Separate Fires in Abington

There were two fires in Abington over the weekend; one was in Roslyn and one was near the Lower Moreland border. Both were machine-related.

  The 2100 block of Moreland Road On Friday night, a car parked in a driveway in the 2100 block of Moreland Road caught on fire and caused the vinyl siding of two adjacent houses to catch fire, according to Abington Fire Marshal Ken Clark. The fire was so intense that it caused a window to shatter on one of the houses. According to Clark, the homeowner said her car started malfunctioning as she drove home from work. She parked the car and later saw something glowing in her driveway. Clark said no one was injured. -- Turner and Bishop avenues Clark said a fire started Sunday at about 10:30 p.m. in the basement of a home near the corner of Turner and Bishop avenues in Roslyn.  The cause? UPDATE: PECO Lines May have Caused Roslyn Fires

Abington Fire Marshal: Three Reservoir Avenue houses were affected by fires that may be related to PECO power lines.

Updated with comment from PECO: -- Some Roslyn residents are without power today following fires that may have been PECO related. Abington Fire Marshal Ken Clark said three homes in the 1500 block of Reservoir Avenue were affected. There was a fire in the attic of a house near the corner of Reservoir and Miriam avenues; and a fire at the rear of another house in the 1500 block. No one was injured in either house, however both homes were occupied. Another house had its TV cable wires near the PECO meter melt down. “It would appear as if there’s an issue with the PECO lines supplying power to this immediate area,” Clark said. “There’s an indication that there were some power problems but also an indication that there were [TV] cable problems…
