Tougher Pa. Gun Laws Receive Montgomery County DA's Support

Risa Ferman says it could reduce violence in Montco.

Delaware Valley politicians ban together to fight to get tougher gun laws. The district attorneys in the Greater Philadelphia area have put their heads together to find ways to restrict illegal weapons in the region. Risa Vetri Ferman, Montgomery County District Attorney, told Nesworks that "the legislation could also help reduce violence in [Montgomery County] areas." According to a report by WHYY, Ferman has "joined a bipartisan contingent of lawmakers to discuss new state legislation setting a mandatory minimum two-year sentence for illegally carrying a firearm in Philadelphia." Abington High School's Flower Show Exhibit Takes Second

'A Welcome Wanderer' by Abington Senior High School took second in their category.

Abington Senior High School's "A Welcome Wanderer" display, a take on William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Nights Dream" was awarded second place and class commendation at the 2013 Philadelphia Flower Show. The annual flower show is taking place now through Sunday, March 10 at the Philadelphia Convention Center.

Local Man Named to Top Financial Advisors List

Mark Eskin has been named to the 2013 Barron's 'Top 1,000 Advisors' list.

Mark Eskin of Philadelphia, and a financial advisor at Janney Montgomery Scot LLC, has been named to Barron's 2013 list of "Top 1,000 Advisors," according to Business Wire. Eskin serves as the Executive Vice President and senior partner of Stedmark Partners at Janney Montgomery Scott. Eskin, President of the Philadelphia Estate Planning Council and member of the Planned Giving Advisory Committee of Abington Memorial Hospital, was named a Barron's "Top Advisor" in 2010 and 2012 and by the Philadelphia Business Journal as a "Top Financial Advisor in Greater Phiadelphia."  Read about the other local financial advisors who have been named to this list here.

Montgomery County-Native Bradley Cooper Preps for Oscar Night

The Philadelphia-born, Jenkintown-raised Cooper is up for Best Actor.

As viewers make the popcorn and snuggle up on the couch, Bradley Cooper is likely checking his tux, checking the limo times and stretching for a long walk down the red carpet. The Oscars are this Sunday. The awards will air at 7 p.m. Sunday on ABC. Up for best actor is the Montgomery County-born and -raised Bradley Cooper. His work in "Silver Linings Playbook" has helped to net the flick eight nominees including best actor, best actress (his co-star Jennifer Lawrence), best picture and best director (David O. Russell). The Philadelphia-based flick was a nice return home for the local man, who grew up in Jenkintown and graduated from Germantown Academy. 'Four Weddings' Casting in Philadelphia Region

Planning a wedding in the Philadelphia region? The TLC show 'Four Weddings' is casting couples.

TLC is casting for their show "Four Weddings" in the Philadelphia area. Whether you're planning a large extravagant wedding, or a small intimate affair, brides that are planning a wedding within an hour of Philadelphia and through May 2013 "are asked to meet the show’s casting directors at the Philadelphia Bridal Expo on the Delaware," according to an article in the Pottstown Mercury. The Expo will be held on Feb. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. "Brides who are chosen to appear on the show have the chance to win a fantasy honeymoon if their wedding is voted the best of all four presented in an hourlong episode." Squibb Upset in Second Straight Wing Bowl Defeat

Connecticut's James "The Bear" McDonald pulls out a narrow victory over the three-time champ.

Philadelphia's championship drought has spread to yet another sport: New Englander James "The Bear" McDonald pulled off an upset victory in Wing Bowl 21, edging three-time champ Jonathan “Super” Squibb to take the title. FBI, Philly Police Investigating Gov. Corbett's Son-in-Law

Multiple sources say Philadelphia narcotics officer Gerald Gibson has been put on administrative leave.

Last updated 6:20 p.m. Multiple news outlets are reporting that the son-in-law of Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett is under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Philadelphia Police. Sources tell NBC10 that Gerald Gibson, a narcotics officer, has been placed on administrative leave. Police reportedly issued a brief statement about an officer being removed from his duties after a joint investigation by the FBI and Internal Affairs. The officer was not reportedly identified and has not been arrested or charged with a crime. WPVI-TV (6 ABC) reported that Gibson was allegedly found in possession of marked money that was used during a police sting operation. Levis Brings the Taste of South Philly to Abington

The traditional and famous Levis hot dogs can be found in Abington, as well as in delis around Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties.

Levis Hot Dogs, which has been around in South Philadelphia for over 100 years, had been resurrected in Abington by Elliot Hirsch, owner of the new Levi Hot Dogs on Old York Rd. Hirsh bought Levis in 1990, but closed the business for a few years when a number of different business plans failed. A year ago, Hirsch opened the Levis Hot Dog shop in Abington, following the original Levis hot dog recipe for all beef, lean hot dogs, right out of South Philly. Hirsch, who has a background in product development, spent nearly two years testing the hot dog recipe with a number of manufacturers before finding the manufacturer that could produce hot dogs that look and taste like the ones everyone remembers. UPDATE: Missing Philadelphia Girl Found

Nailla Robinson was taken out of her school Monday morning by an unidentified woman.

Last updated Tuesday 8:45 a.m. Nailla Robinson has been found safe. NBC Philadelphia reports that the child was located early this morning at a playground in Upper Darby. A passerby heard her cries for help as he was on his way to work. She is being evaluated at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Earlier story below. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, an Amber Alert has been issued for Nailla Robinson, 5, of Philadelphia. "The Pennsylvania State Police has issued an Amber Child Abduction Alert for the Philadelphia Police Department, Philadelphia County," said the release of information. Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden Visits Norristown

Several high-ranking politicos, including Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Mitt Romney and Bill Clinton are spending the last few days before the election in Montgomery County in a last big push to mobilize voters.

With only a few days left until the election, candidates and their proxies are making the rounds in some of the battleground states this weekend, including Pennsylvania. Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, made a few campaign stops in Montgomery County this weekend – in Media on Friday and then in Norristown, West Chester, Germantown and the Northeast on Saturday. On her Saturday stops, she was accompanied by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter.
