A short strip of Limekiln Pike will be closed and detoured for six months starting Tuesday, July 5, between Ogontz Avenue (Route 309) and Cheltenham Avenue for the rehabilitation of the structurally deficient bridge over Rock Creek in Cheltenham, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said today in a press release. Traffic will be detoured over Route 309, Easton Road, and Cheltenham Avenue. Local access will be maintained on Limekiln Pike up to the construction area, according to the release. The $7.4 million-project will rehabilitate the stone arch bridge to preserve its structural integrity and to enhance its safety and efficiency. It was standing room only April 12 when over 100 Abington residents packed the Ardsley Community Center as part of a town hall meeting sponsored by Abington Township Commissioner Dennis Zappone. Zappone held the meeting to give residents an update on the PennDOT reconstruction project involving Edge Hill Road and Tyson Avenue. Township officials and engineers from Pennoni Associates, out of Philadelphia, were on hand for the presentation and answered questions about the project status, the potential impact on property and right-of-way plans.
