PW Hosts Major League Ultimate Action

Players from Lansdale, Glenside, Norristown get their Frisbee on.

It's just a simple, plastic disc, but don't tell that to the hundreds of local players that take the game quite seriously. Sunday's match-up in Plymouth Whitemarsh was proof positive that something as basic as a Frisbee can get the fans moving. According to the Times Herald, "Ultimate" as it is known to fans "is something of a hybrid between soccer and football, only instead of a ball, flying plastic is used." Sunday, a match-up between Philadelphia Spinners and the New York Rumble was hosted at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. In the day's game, Norristown resident Jack Casey, Lansdale natives Mike and David Baer and Jonah Wisch from Glenside all played, according to the Herald. County Government Might Sell Its Primary Office Building

The move would transfer the responsibility for $17-18 million in needed repairs from taxpayers to a private owner. The county could then lease the building back from its new owner.

Montgomery County could sell and lease back its primary office building as it seeks to avoid spending tax dollars on needed repairs to the facility, the county announced Thursday. The county purchased the One Montgomery Plaza tower, which sits across Swede Street from the county courthouse in Norristown, for $26 million in 2006. The building houses the bulk of Montgomery County's government offices, but needs as much as $18 million in repairs.  "There is significant cost to fixing this building and putting it in a condition that, frankly, it should have been put in several years ago, but that maintenance need was ignored by the prior administrations," Board of Commissioners chairman Josh Shapiro said. Montco Sheriff Seeks to Expand 'GREAT' Program

School, court, community program aims to prevent violence.

What can they say? It's a "GREAT" program. And, Montgomery County's Sheriff Eileen Whalon Behr hopes it can continue. "The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department seeks to expand the Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) Program through the county’s public schools, court system and community events," said Behr in a recent release. "The violence prevention program aims to prevent bullying, youth crime, violence, drug use, and gang involvement." Behr says the program is designed to be preventative.  “The program is specifically designed to avoid future problems and provides positive interaction with our deputy sheriffs,” said Behr. Italy Trip Planned by Montgomery County Organization

The public is welcome to come along with The Regional Association of Campania.

The food. The canals. The art. The history. Whatever your reason for going, Italy can make a wonderful vacation destination. One Montgomery County-based organization is planning such a trip for this summer. The Regional Association of Campania in PA (RAC) will host a trip to Italy this year, and all are invited to come along for the ride. According to the website, RAC was founded in Norristown, Montgomery County, Pa. in 2000 to "enhance, promote, educate and augment the diffusion of Italian Culture in collaboration with the culture and tourism of the Campania Region." Missing 13-Year-Old Located by Police

UPDATE: [3/17/13; 2:15 a.m.] Norristown Police confirm that 13-year-old Tatiana Melendez, who went missing Friday afternoon, was located by officers Saturday evening and released into the custody of her father. Girl Missing from Norristown Area Now Found

An 8-year-old girl went missing around 6 p.m., but is now found.

UPDATE: The girl has been found, and was returned to her parents. Her father picked her up at the police station. She is now safe. Initial report below (6:17 p.m.): Norristown Patch reports that a girl, 8, is missing after wandering from her mother. She is a black female, with pigtails, a black and white jacket and black boots. Parking Lot Romance Leads to Weapons Charge: According to a report in the Lansdale Patch, a Quakertown man is facing weapons charges after an incident in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn in Towamencin. The report states that police were initially investigating a suspicious occupied vehicle in the rear parking lot, when they discovered two men allegedly engaged in a sexual activity.
