Meadowbrook School Students Comfort Hospital Patients

Students presented hand-made gifts to Abington Memorial Hospital patients.

As part of a community service initiative, 12 Meadowbrook School students accompanied Headmaster David Stephens, along with school representatives, to Abington Memorial Hospital to provide comfort-based gifts to patients. The gifts, presented last week, were created by the students as part of Meadowbrook’s Choose Your Own Adventure Program. “At Meadowbrook, a core component of our educational mission is to ensure that every one of our students understands the importance and value of community service. Our dedicated faculty and staff consistently weave the lessons of humanity toward others throughout the curriculum on a yearlong basis,” Stephens said. Shapiro Votes in Abington

Shapiro: Turnout is higher-than-average, steady

Democratic candidate for Montgomery County Commissioner Josh Shapiro stood in lobby of the Meadowbrook School with his daughter, Sophia, earlier this morning. He was looking out the glass doors, waiting to greet voters and waiting for the rest of his family to arrive so he could vote. “Sophia got up early so she could hang with me before going to school,” Shapiro said. Shapiro arrived at the polling place at 7 a.m.; he called voter turnout “steady.” “Turnout is a bit higher than typical for your odd-year election, and we’re encouraged by that,” he said. Shapiro is running with Leslie Richards. See more about their campaign here. The candidate said he stopped reading and watching news about the election a couple weeks ago; he looked …

The festival is a rite of passage for sixth-grade 'seniors.'

Capping off their studies of the Middle Ages, The Meadowbrook School students held a Medieval Festival June 2. The festival was based on their studies of the Middle Ages over the past year. Joe Gaines, a sixth grade teacher, led the event. According to Gaines, the festival has been going on for 25 years. He said he believes it’s one of the first schools to hold a traditional medieval festival. Some of the events included a knighting ceremony, game demonstrations, maypole dancing, a jousting …

How cool... those kids will remember that activity long after they have forgotten the details of thousands of worksheets. I still remember a project that my friends and I did in high school that was similar to this, but little else from that class. Great ideas. Good job! The Scientists at Meadowbrook School Show Off — Nobody Said it was Easy

The Meadowbrook School holds its science fair

The Meadowbrook School held its science fair March 5.  About 120 students presented their findings to their teachers and parents.  The school's science fair combined natural curiosity, problem solving, field experiment, and the scientific method to create models, experiments or naturalistic observations. Students, teachers and parents were entertained as they learned about differences between frogs and toads, which salt melts ice the best and what batteries last the longest. This year's theme was "Our Universe, Reach for the Stars" and it included a planetarium show, hands-on science activities and a scavenger hunt that promoted directive learning. Sixth graders focused on the scientific method; students of other grades had the option to …
