Lansdale Assessing Sites for Future Skate Park

Councilwoman Mary Fuller dubbed 2013 "the year of the skate park." Parks and Recreation Director Carl Saldutti discussed his research with Abington, Ambler and Quakertown skate parks — and how to get Hatfield Township on board with the borough's plan

2013 — The Year of the Skate Park Lansdale Parks and Recreation Chairwoman Mary Fuller has dubbed this year the year when Lansdale Borough brings a skate park to the community. The committee discussed its early progress on development of such a park Wednesday night. The borough is currently in the "learning mode" and "exploring mode" for the skate park. What was revealed at that meeting — Five potential sites for the park, with the jointly-owned Schweiker Park on the list. Lansdale Parks and Recreation Director Carl Saldutti is meeting with the Hatfield Township Park Board on Monday to update them on the borough's plan. I couldn't agree more about allowing bikes at the park. Not only are we taxpayers who get hassled out of local spots, the bmx scene, in lansdale especially, is growing and expanding at a pretty rapid pace. Bikers need a safe place to ride without getting kicked out or fined. Along with the skaters, we can organize and help with the planning, labor, and general upkeep of the park. 'Larger than Life' Tournament to be Held in Hatfield

The annual volleyball tournament, in memory of local coach Glenn Szakal, will be held on Aug. 18.

The Larger than Life Memorial Fund will hold its 3rd Annual Volleyball Benefit on Aug. 18 at School Road Park at 9 a.m., and will feature a scholarship ceremony for a local North Penn High School graduate. The benefit is one of several initiatives put on by the Larger than Life Fund to raise money for scholarships and community programs in the memory of Glenn Szakal, an Indian Crest Middle School volleyball coach who died suddenly in 2009. “Glenn always put everybody first, and when he passed, it was like a big hole in all of our hearts, and we felt like we had to do something about it,” said Steve Szakal, Glenn’s cousin. “Our main goal is to keep giving back - we need to keep his giving going.” Larger than Life, with partner East Coast …

Convicted Burglar, Hatfield Woman Nabbed for Alleged Daytime Burglaries

Joshua Siringhaus, of Upper Gwynedd, and Kristin Leidy, of Hatfield Borough, were the two culprits in numerous daytime burglaries in several Montgomery and Bucks County municipalities, police said

An Upper Gwynedd man, who was convicted of and had spent time in prison for numerous burglaries in 2003 in Franconia and Lower Salford townships, has been nabbed again for alleged numerous daytime burglaries by Hatfield Township Police, along with his alleged female accomplice from Hatfield Borough. The female accomplice was convicted in 2007 on felony receiving stolen property charges in Hatfield Township and spent time in prison on the charges. Both have been charged in connection with numerous daytime burglaries since March in several Montgomery and Bucks County municipalities, according to police. All together that makes 107 charges, 90 of them being FELONY counts.
