Eastern Opens Doors to Cosmetology Clinic

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology’s Cosmetology Clinic is open to the public.

As recently as April 6, Erika Rambo, an Eastern Center for Arts and Technology cosmetology student and Abington Senior High School senior, held a public cosmetology clinic in order to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. It has provided this service to the public for the last 25 years, on a first come, first serve basis, according to a recent Eastern press release. Eastern Cosmetology students are available most Thursdays and Fridays to provide hair, nail and skin services to the general public for a small fee in between the hours of 8 to 10 a.m. and 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. According to the release, the only cost to the client is the cost of the product to the school. These services save customers a great deal of money, and it also gives …

Abington Cosmetology Students Get Motivated

Eastern cosmetology students hear from industry expert Geno Stampora

On Tuesday, Eastern Center for Arts and Technology cosmetology instructors Wendy Leyden and Amy Mednick accompanied 50 of their junior and senior cosmetology students to see Geno Stampora at neighboring Bucks County Technical High School. Stampora, an industry expert, is a motivational speaker with the unique ability to ignite passion and inspire the creative juices of beauty professionals around the world. Stampora began his career working behind the chair in a salon and gradually moved up to manage and finally to own a collection of successful salons. He has also owned two beauty academies, where he interacted with and instructed his students. Stampora has been a distributor and sales consultant to salons, a major platform artist, and …

Eastern Cosmetology Student Works to Benefit Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology and Abington High School senior Erkia Rambo will hold a public cosmetology clinic to benefit the society.

Erika Rambo, an Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (Eastern) Cosmetology student and Abington Senior High School senior, will hold a public cosmetology clinic April 6, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The clinic will take place at Eastern, located at 3075 Terwood Road in Willow Grove, and proceeds from the event will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. According to an Eastern press release, Erika chose the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society because her uncle had Leukemia and passed away when he was 40 years old. Since her uncle’s passing, Erika’s father has been donating to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society on a regular basis and, this prompted her to find a way to raise funds. “Running this clinic is the ideal way for me to raise money for a …

Abington Graduate Makes Waves

The Abington and Eastern grad is now polishing her craft in Glenside.

  An Abington High School and Eastern Center for Arts and Technology graduate landed a job doing what she loves in Glenside. BillieJo Goudy, a 2012 graduate, is currently working at New Waves Salon. Goudy began working at the salon as a first-year student in Eastern’s cosmetology program. Goudy received her Pennsylvania cosmetology license in September and is now working on building her clientele — she’s also attending Montgomery County Community College. Goudy’s cousin took Eastern’s cosmetology program when BillieJo was in seventh grade and used her as a model for one of her projects. She said it was at that point that her love of the cosmetology field blossomed. Her main interest is in hair care and coloring and styling. Goudy said she …

Abington Grad Blends Paint, Interests

Zachary Holler, a recent Abington grad, lands a new job working on cars.

  Abington High School and Eastern Center for Arts and Technology graduate Zachary Holler completed the collision reconditioning technology program at the automotive training center in Warminster in October, and is now a full-time collision repair specialist at Southampton Collision. While a tenth grader at Abington High School, Holler was very interested in cars. When one of his teachers suggested that he consider an Eastern program for his junior and senior years, he was torn between the automotive technology and collision repair technology programs. Ultimately, he chose collision repair technology because it was a chance to work on cars, while incorporating another one of his interests – art, specifically painting. During his tenure at …

Eastern's January Student of the Month

A Jenkintown High School student takes home the award.

  Kevin Lynch is the January 2013 Student of the Month at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology in Willow Grove. He is in his second year of Eastern’s protective services program and a senior at Jenkintown High School. At Eastern, Lynch maintains high grades and perfect attendance in his protective services program. He is involved in SkillsUSA as the 2012-13 SkillsUSA Protective Services Class President. SkillsUSA is a national student organization promoting good citizenship, student leadership, professionalism, teamwork, and recognizes student achievement and excellence. Lynch comes from a family of Eastern graduates, including his father and brother. At Eastern, Lynch is currently the student representative for the protective services …

Eastern Donates to Red Cross

As part of a community service project, Eastern students collected money to be donated to Hurricane Sandy Victims

  The Eastern Center for Arts and Technology SkillsUSA school-wide officers have chosen to support the American Red Cross in their mission to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. In November, the SkillsUSA Officers collected $450 from fellow students, faculty, administration and staff members.  After witnessing the effects of the storm locally and watching news footage of the widespread damage, the SkillsUSA officers approached their advisor Karon Crickmore about a potential fundraiser. Crickmore supported their endeavor and the students immediately began their request of at least $1 per person.  Early this morning, Michelle Wigianto, Major Gifts Associate from the American Red Cross, visited Eastern to accept the donation on behalf of the…

Abington, Eastern Students Take Home Medals

Several Abington students among the winners at the recent Career and Technical Student Organization’s Leadership Conference in the Poconos

  A delegation of 38 SkillsUSA students and four advisors from Eastern Center for Arts and Technology, participated in the Annual District 2 Career and Technical Student Organization’s (CTSO) Leadership Conference at the Pocono Manor Resort last week. Over 175 students in seven different technical centers from Bucks, Delaware and Montgomery counties attended the conference. SkillsUSA is a national student leadership organization that encourages students to be productive individuals in our democratic society. Eastern students brought home 22 gold medals, seven silver medals, and nine bronze medals. Abington Student Sends Blocks to Africa

John O'Riordan, an Abington High School senior and Eastern construction technology student, will help a needy primary school.

  Abington High School Senior and Eastern Center for Arts and Technology construction technology student John O’Riordan is shipping his senior project overseas — he’s sending it to Africa. O’Riordan has chosen to make building blocks for Katamoy Primary School in Kenya.  Earlier this year, O’Riordan asked Mary Rodgers, Abington High School’s Service Learning Facilitator, for some senior project suggestions. Knowing that O’Riordan is in his second year of construction technology at Eastern, Rodgers suggested the building block project using scrap lumber from Eastern’s programs.  Last summer, Rodgers accompanied a group of students and parents from Abington High School on a community service trip to the Rift Valley in Kenya. Eastern Signs Art Agreement with PSU Abington

The agreement will save Eastern students money at Penn State Abington.

  Last month, representatives from Eastern Center for Arts and Technology signed a new articulation agreement for Eastern Students moving on to Penn State Abington’s art program. This new agreement saves Eastern commercial art students money. Penn State Abington waives the application fee for those Eastern students entering the arts and humanities program as a pre-major with the intention to declare art as a major, should the students meet the necessary requirements, including a successful art portfolio review.
