Copper Beech Elementary School held its annual Literature Night at the Willow Grove Barnes and Noble store on last week. The theme for this year, “Vote for Books,” correlated with the Presidential election. As a school with an enrollment of over 1,000 students, the Copper Beech community virtually overwhelmed the store with Copper Beech pride. The school’s colors — green and gold — were everywhere. Even the in-house Starbucks café sold Cougar frappes, named after Cougar Carl, the school’s mascot. Students enjoyed reading with principals, teachers, parents, Cougar Carl and Miss J (the school peace dog). Copper Beech Elementary School sixth-grade teacher Susan Hideck scored the title “Dresher Acme Teacher of the Month” for February. Last week, two representatives from the Dresher Acme surprised Hideck at school and presented her with the award in front of her class. Hideck was anonymously nominated by one of her students. In her first year at Copper Beech, Hideck has been a teacher for a total of eight years; four of those years have been in Abington. In addition to the title, Hideck received flowers, two Acme reusable grocery bags and a $50 Acme gift card. -- Information courtesy of Abington School District
