The Cheltenham Center for the Arts kicks off its show.
The Cheltenham Center for the Arts will hold a reception Sunday afternoon for its 70th annual awards show. The show’s juror is Joan Wadleigh Curran, painter, guest artist and lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania. The reception runs from 2 to 4 p.m.; the show runs through May 11 and gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. CCA will also host a special fundraising event, Art in Bloom, on April 27 in conjunction with the painting show. The event pairs 20 local floral designers with specific paintings in the exhibit. Each floral artist will be paired with a painting and will then create a unique arrangement as his or her interpretation of the chosen work. The designs will be unveiled and floral prizes awarded on the evening of April 27. -- …

The Cheltenham Center for the Arts will hold its annual Family Fun Day on Sunday, March 17 from noon to 4 p.m. The day includes theater performances from the Cheltenham Center for the Arts’ Young Improvisors’ Troupe; musical performances from Cheltenham High School’s a cappella groups and an open house full of artists. The Cheltenham Center for the Arts opened the 72nd Annual Members Show to an energetic and enthusiastic crowd of members, guests and family. The exhibition features work by over 100 members. This vibrant and varied exhibition is an opportunity for all members to showcase their creativity and talent in the community. Cheltenham Center for the Arts will host its 72nd Annual Members Exhibition, opening on Friday, Jan. 11. ,This vibrant and varied exhibition is an opportunity for all members to showcase their creativity and talent. The exhibition continues through Feb. 8. Deirdre Murphy, Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania, is the juror for prizes in the exhibition. The call for entries is open to all current adult CCA members. Each artist may submit one entry of any new work in any medium, created in the last two years and never before shown at the Cheltenham Center for the Arts. The Cheltenham Center for the Arts will hold a workshop on encaustic — the ancient art of hot wax — on July 21 and 22. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. There is another encaustic workshop on Aug. 12 and 13. Encaustic is enjoying a revival in the art world of late as a versatile and subtle medium. Try your hand at this fascinating process with Laura Demme. Demme is a painter, sculptor and mixed media artist. All of the materials needed to explore this fun and fast medium will be provided. A $25 materials fee made payable to the instructor (cash or check) is need. Also, bring your lunch, snacks and a beverage. The Cheltenham Center for the Arts, along with Open Book, will hold the next session in its author conversation series, Philly Writes!, tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. Two local authors will read from their respective novels. Each deals with family issues.
