This year, I'm thankful for my health and showing it by donating my hair to those who are suffering with cancer and hair loss.
Last week, after a number of years of growing out my hair, it was time to cut it off. More than 10 inches were cut off in four separate pony tails, to be donated to Locks of Love. I've been watching this month as all of my friends have been posting on Facebook what they are thankful for this year, I thought what more is there to be thankful for than your health? I have been blessed with good health, however, not everyone is as lucky. And for the children that deal with illness every day - this year, next year, and any year that came before this one or that will come in the future, that is why I grow out and cut my hair for donation. This is not the first time I've made the big cut for donation, either. My first time I did as an impulse in …

Incumbent Todd Stephens and Democrat Will Sylianteng compete for the legislative district which covers Horsham, Upper Dublin, Ambler, Montgomery Township and Abington.
For Democrat Will Sylianteng, the man contesting incumbent State Rep. Todd Stephens for his seat representing the 151st legislative district, sums up Tuesday as a "good day one way or the other." "We’re at polling places introducing ourselves to people as they come in," Sylianteng told Patch of he and his 30 or so volunteers in place at some of the district's three dozen polling places throughout Horsham, Upper Dublin, Ambler, Montgomery Township and Abington. "You actually go face-to-face with an actual voter." It's different than the 14,000 doors Sylianteng knocked while talking to people who, he said may or may not even cast a vote in the 2012 election. To actually see them about to do that makes for a "pretty enjoyable day," he said. …

Yesterday was cool and today will be slightly warmer, but this weekend will yet again bring us cold and damp conditions
It is hard to believe that March is coming to an end already. The days are just flying by faster and faster. If you have any plans for outside festivities this weekend, I would suggest bringing a coat and an umbrella because it will be cold and dreary for the majority of Saturday and Sunday. This morning was yet again freezing with temperatures in the mid 30s. As the afternoon rolls around, partly cloudy skies will allow it to feel pleasantly comfortable with temperatures rising into the mid- to upper-50s. Clouds will start to increase by the late afternoon rush hour as a disturbance from the west creeps in. Rain is not expected to arrive until around midnight, if not later. Temperatures will fall into the low 40s with a southeasternly …

The sun will try its best to poke through the clouds today, but more rain is expected to put a damper on any plans for the weekend
March did not really come marching in, but it it's definitely leaving some muddy bootprints. Even though it's the second day of the month, the sun seems shy as it hides behind the clouds. My spring break from college starts today, and this is not what I want to see; my hopes are high for a potentially beautiful pattern next week. Today will start out in the upper 30s with mostly cloudy skies. The sun will try its best to come out in the afternoon, which can bring the high temperatures to the low 50s. If the sun is too shy to come out, the temperatures may not reach the 50 degree mark. By the afternoon commute, clouds will quickly take over and thicken as a storm system approaches from the southwest. Before I carry on, if you plan on …

The Ambler playhouse will feature its second cabaret act this Monday.
This season, Act II Playhouse tried something new. Fans of the theater are able to spend some evenings with Philadelphia’s much-admired performers at this season’s Cabaret Night series. Currently, there five cabaret shows for the 2011-2012 season. The first one debuted on Sept. 19 with Jeffrey Coon, known for his many performances at the Walnut Street Theatre. He immediately jumped on board when Act II asked if he’d star in one of them. “They have done several individual cabarets over the past few seasons,” Coon said. “I was extremely flattered and excited to have been asked to be the first one this season. I have been looking for an opportunity to work on a cabaret over the past few years and, so often, because of other work and …

The local community and fire company rallies to help a friend in need.
Chris Tanczos has served with the Wissahickon Fire Company for over 15 years, but in late February, his left foot was amputated due to a diabetic complication. The situation couldn't have come at a worse time for Tanczos, as he was between jobs and lacked any type of medical coverage. Since then, the 38-year-old fire police captain has faced a long, complicated recovery, racking up mounds of medical bills as he looks to get his life back on track. In an effort to help ease his worries, lifelong-friend Shannon Wiechec, along with help from fellow Station No. 7 firemen Steve Strus and Bob Harris, decided to organize a benefit to help keep spirits high and his bills low. "He's my best friend in the world, and he'll give anyone the shirt …
