Schwartz supported President Obama’s recommendations in a written statement: Now is the time for us to take action to end the senseless loss of life that occurs almost daily across our country due to gun violence. I applaud President Obama and Vice President Biden for reaching out to the many factions in this debate and calling for meaningful action to reduce gun violence. I strongly support the President’s proposal announced today, which represents a comprehensive plan to keep guns out of the wrong hands, increase gun safety, and prevent future acts of gun violence. While President Obama took executive action today to reduce gun violence, there is still more work to be done to ensure our communities, our children and our schools are …

U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz, D-13, delivered a statement on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday during debate on House Resolution 833, a resolution condemning the attack on Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. “The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was shattering for Americans everywhere. For such an unspeakable act of violence to take place at an elementary school: a place of safety, learning, and lively spirit, was devastating. My sons are grown, but my memories from their first days at school are still vivid,” Schwartz said. See the video above.

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims of today’s shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. This senseless and horrifying act of violence resulted in the loss of innocent lives, including many young children. While nothing can relieve the pain of this tragedy, we can work to prevent these situations from happening again by engaging in a serious conversation about the issue of gun violence in our country. Today is a day for mourning the loss of the victims and for coming together as Americans to provide support for the community.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett said in a Dec. 12 press release that he “decided not to pursue a state-based health insurance exchange at this time.” He continued, “However, we will continue to seek guidance from HHS on the costs, impacts and flexibility involved in the different options for Medicaid expansion.” See the entire press release here, and read his letter to U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the pdf section of this post. U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz, D-13, responded with the following statement: Governor Corbett's decision not to accept the authority to develop and operate a state ‘exchange’ marketplace of private health coverage for individuals and small businesses is a failure of …

Takes election by nearly two-to-one margin.
U.S. Representative Allyson Schwartz D-13 won a fifth term Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Joe Rooney soundly by garnering 69 percent of the vote to Rooney's 31 percent, state results show. "Tonight is a great victory for the state, we're seeing even more blue than people expected. We're going to hold republicans accountable, we're going to win the country and keep going forward," said Schwartz at a Philadelphia Obama Victory Party at the Warwick Hotel. Seen as a rising star in the Democratic party, Schwartz also spoke on stage at the Democratic National Convention in September. Challenger Rooney attempted to paint Schwartz as someone who had neglected her district in pursuit of loftier goals. However, the message didn't …

Both candidates for PA's 13th Congressional District were at the Great American Pub Wednesday night.
Joe Rooney is certainly getting mileage out of that chicken suit. In an effort to demonstrate his belief that congresswoman Allyson Schwartz, the Democratic incumbent for Pennsylvania's 13th district, is unwilling to debate him, Republican challenger Joe Rooney has been appearing with a super-sized chicken as of late. The most recent sighting was outside of the Great American Pub in Conshohocken Wednesday night, while supporters of Rep. Schwartz gathered inside for a fundraising meet-and-greet. It was Schwartz's second visit to the borough in a week, after Conshohocken was added to the 13th in the latest redistricting. While the meet-and-greet was closed to the press, Neil Deegan, Schwartz's political director, told Patch over the phone …
