PODS and Dumpsters: On Notice in Abington

Abington cracks down on rogue portable storage units.

Do you know someone with a POD, Dumpster or other portable storage unit on his or her property? That person’s going to need a permit. The Abington Board of Commissioners last night unanimously approved a motion requiring permits for the placement of portable storage units in the township. According to the ordinance, anyone looking to place one of these units on his or her property must apply for a permit from the code enforcement department. The permit lasts for 30 days. Abington Passes Anti-Discrimination Ordinance

After a long hearing, the board passed the ordinance 10-5

Late last night, the Abington Township Board of Commissioners passed an ordinance that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, sexual identity or sexual expression. Such an ordinance would provide discrimination protection to a broader range of classes, notably the gay, lesbian and transgender community, as those classes are not protected under the state’s human rights act. The township tabled a different version of the anti-discrimination ordinance late last year, and, on Wednesday night, members of the public affairs committee had two new drafts of an anti-discrimination ordinance in front of them. One of the drafts included a version that was approved by the municipalities of Jenkintown, Springfield, and Whitemarsh. The other draft was written by Glenside…

Mr. Zehner, Of course this Ordinance is not meant to label as bigots or criminals, those who disapprove of the behaviors you cite. How many among us do think you can count as wanting to be deserted by our spouses or partners? "Sexual Behavior" is not a protected class (or a class at all, for that matter) It appears to me that you are setting up the argument that, when extended, would protect …   more ›
