New Trash Pickup and ‘Into the Woods,’ This Week

Check out a few of the events happening this week in Abington.

  Starting Monday, Abington Township will begin a new 5-day-a-week trash pickup program. Under the new plan, residents will have trash, paper, recyclables and yard waste picked up on the same day — their neighborhood’s designated trash day. Click here for more information. -- Arcadia University will hold its community flea market on Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at parking lot 12 off of Church Road. A two-parking-space rental can be had for $20. Proceeds will benefit student-run community service projects. Brakes Possible Cause of Abington Trash Truck Accident

Operator of an Abington Trash Truck says the brakes failed, causing an accident.

According to Upper Dublin Police reports, On Saturday, Nov. 23, an officer was dispatched to the Abington Trash Transfer Station, 995 Fitzwatertown Rd. in the Roslyn section of Upper Dublin Township for a report for a vehicle that ran over a stop sign and a fence. Upon the officer's arrival, a blue Abington Trash Truck was allegedly parked in front of the property and occupied by driver, George Long, an employee and operator of Abington Township Sanitation Department, which is located on the trash transfer property. According to the police report, the officer spoke with Long, who stated he was operating the truck and headed out from the parking area towards Fitzwatertown Road.
