Abington Dems ‘Sign Up’ for a Party

The Abington-Rockledge Democratic Committee holds a hybrid petition signing/food drive.

The Abington-Rockledge Democratic Committee held a candidate petition signing party Tuesday night at the Brownstone Building at Sunrise of Abington. The event was designed for the Democrats to get their guys on the primary ballot.  “This is kind of what we’ve been doing for the last three years,” ARDC Chairman Michael Barbiero said. “On the first night of petition signing, we’ve been having this party to sort of jump start the campaign.” A candidate for township commissioner or school board needs 10 signatures to be on the primary ballot. Tuesday was the first day in a three-week period in which prospective candidates may gather signatures to be placed on the ballot — the deadline is March 12, according to Barbiero. UPDATE: Abington Dems Party at Dean's

The Abington Democrats pick up a seat on the Abington Board of Commissioners; Republicans still control 8-7

There were a lot of smiles at Madeleine Dean’s house following the close of the polls. The Abington Democrats gathered at the home of Dean. There, they learned that the Democrats picked up a seat on the Abington Board of Commissioners; the Republicans still control the board by an 8-7 margin. Dean won her election for Ward 7, defeating Republican Matthew Willis. Abington Commissioner Steven Kline, who defeated his opponent James Reeves, said he hoped the Democrats would pick up the majority, but added that he was looking forward to working with everyone on the board. I have been impressed with Ms. Dean's assistance to tenants in the Colonade Manor and Colonade Estate Apartment buildings in the past two months with regard to code violations, lack of security, illegal eviction threats, and retaliatory non-renewals. Safety in a large apartment building is paramount. Commissioner Dean gets it. Safety first. Safety second. Safety all the time.   more ›
