Abington Art Center offers a preview to its Solo Series ... paired with wine
Is there a better pair than wine and art? OK, maybe wine and cheese, or wine and chocolate, but they’re not nearly as interesting to look at. Tonight, the Abington Art Center will hold “Uncorked: Pairings of Art, Wine and Food. The event will feature contemporary artwork from artists: Each artist is part of the Abington Art Center’s Solo Series 2012 this summer. The series kicks off May 20 with a public reception and opening party. See more about the artists and the Solo Series. In addition to art, “Uncorked” will feature music, an auction, food and wine from the following companies: "Uncorked" starts at 7:30 p.m. in the outdoor pavilion. Local artists show their stuff; the show runs through Jan. 29.
The Abington Art Center kicked off its annual juried show Saturday. This year’s juror was Lee Stoetzel; he is the co-curator and director of the West Collection, a corporate collection housed at SEI Investments in Oaks, Pa. Stoetzel is also an artist who has shown his work at the art center. “Every year is different depending on who the juror is. We pick someone from outside the community so there’s no bias,” Laura Burnham, Abington Art Center Executive Director, said with a laugh. “I love shows that have a very specific point of view, and this one does; it’s very eclectic and beautifully hung together and we’re very excited about it.” There are 43 pieces in the show, representing 37 artists. Can life be created out of art? Glenside resident Diana Trout thinks so. She has made her art a life’s work. As an artist, author and teacher, she has spun her imagination and woven in her varied talents designing a rewarding career as an artist. Trout not only created a satisfying means of self-expression but actually found a way to make it pay. Trout is widely known for her vibrant and unique work in mixed media art, often combining water color layers of paper and stitching. She has developed an innovative approach to her art and writing, forming these into a journaling process.
