ACT Honors 'Citizens That Care'

The annual reception honors people and organizations that positively affect the community.

Abington residents gathered Thursday night at the North Hills Country Club to honor “pillars of the community” as part of the Abington Community Taskforce’s annual Citizens That Care reception. Abington Police Lt. Pat Molloy emceed the event — he’s on his way to becoming the Billy Crystal of the event, having presided over it last year. Prior to opening the event, he took some time off in the lobby.  Molloy has an interesting tie to the event. The Abington Community Taskforce was created in 1994, following the murder of Eddie Polec. Schwartz Awarded 'Legislator of Year'

U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz (PA-13) was given the 2013 ACT award.

Greater Valley Forge is thankful for the work she does, and the organization wanted her to know it. GVF's Executive Director Rob Henry and Assistant Director Maureen Farrell presented U.S. Representative Allyson Y. Schwartz (PA-13) with the 2013 ACT "Legislator of the Year" award for "her work in Congress to support transit funding, commuter benefits and infrastructure initiatives in Pennsylvania," according to a recent release from GVF's Carissa Bobenchik. The Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) is a national organization, said Bobenchik, that "works to expand options for commuters and last week marked its seventh annual Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C." ACT to Hold 'Citizens That Care'

The annual event will be held April 26 at the North Hill Country Club.

  The Abington Community Taskforce, a nonprofit, community-based corporation comprising more than 30 major community organizations, will hold its annual Citizens That Care Recognition Reception April 26 at the North Hills Country Club. The event will honor people and organizations who positively impact the lives of children and teenagers. This year’s honorees are: Last year, honorees included Debra Laub Jack; Taylor Appel, Mark Penecale and Abington Police Chief William Kelly. To see video from last year’s event, click here. You have not correctly listed all of the 2011 Honorees. The recipients of the Citizens That Care honor were the Abington Y Achievers, Debra Laub Jack, Katie Gorbey, and Mark Penecale.
