Homes in Upper Moreland, Abington, Upper Dublin and other municipalities were burglarized between November 2008 and October 2010.
A Philadelphia man was sentenced to five to 10 years’ state prison time for his role in committing several burglaries between 2008 and 2010. According to a story on Phillyburbs.com, John D. Wilson, 49, was sentenced earlier this week. Wilson has been incarcerated since October 2010 and his co-defendant, William Perkins, 64, of Philadelphia, the getaway driver, is serving a 10- to 20-year state sentence after admitting to his role in the crimes. Wilson gave police a statement admitting to burglarizing almost 40 homes in the area. According to Abington Police, Perkins and Wilson used a white Ford pickup truck with ladder racks during the burglaries, which was seen leaving the scene of a burglary in October 2010. Abington police arrested a Willow Grove man after he attempted to pick up his father’s car. Antonio Orlina, 24, of Decatur Avenue, was arrested after he went to retrieve his father’s car after his father was arrested during a traffic stop for having an outstanding warrant, police said. According to police, the stop happened in early March near the corner of Welsh Road and Coolidge Avenue. Police said Orlina didn’t want his father’s vehicle to be towed. Police, knowing that Orlina also had an outstanding warrant, waited by the vehicle and attempted to arrest him. A drug ring that included Montgomery County has recently been on trial in a major wire-tapping case.
He took the stand as a witness for the prosecution, but it was the defense that really got him to talk. An unnamed ringleader of a major drug ring that reached parts of Montgomery, Bucks, Chester and Philadelphia counties was the topic of discussion in Judge Gary S. Silow’s courtroom Friday, as more than 24 men and women face charges in the ring, which was caught via wire-tapping by local authorities, reports the Times Herald. The witness admitted on the stand, when questioned by the defense, that he did not know at least one of the men named as part of a drug trafficking organization. The Abington Board of Commissioners on Thursday night honored Detective Sgt. Steve Fink and Deputy Chief John Livingood with Class III Commendations for their respective roles in arresting a northeast Philadelphia man allegedly involved in 30 burglaries. Abington was part of a multi-agency taskforce that helped arrest Derrick Carter, of the 4600 block of Sheffield Avenue. Livingood thanked the Upper Dublin Police Department as well as the Pennsylvania State Police. See the initial story from November here. According to Livingood, Carter burglarized residential properties in the daytime, prying in the front or rear door usually. He took jewelry and electronics, including TVs and likely acted with at least one accomplice.

Abington Police arrested a Warminster man late last month after he allegedly grabbed a victim by the neck and threatened to put the victim in the trunk of his Buick and kill her. Brent Quartez Diggs, 23, of East Street Road, was arrested April 24 at about 1:30 a.m. after he allegedly injured the victim at the victim’s home in the 100 block of Elm Avenue and then fled. The victim had several red marks on the victim’s neck, face and chest. According to police, the victim said Diggs “flipped out” following an argument on April 23 at about 11:30 p.m. Diggs then began choking the victim and started banging the victim’s head on the hood of the victim’s vehicle, police said. Five Montgomery County cemeteries among those hit, police say.
No one should steal. It is against the law. Somehow, stealing from the grieving relatives of the recently deceased just adds another level of disturbance to the entire crime. According to police, three have been arrested for such crimes, allegedly stealing from 10 cemeteries in Bucks County and five in Montgomery, including cemeteries in Lower Moreland, Cheltenham, and Horsham, said a report on CBS Local.
