School Board's Back and a Cooking Class, This Week in Abington

Check out some events happening this week in Abington.

The Old York Road Genealogical Society will meet Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. in the community room at the Abington Library. The meetings are free and open to the public and include speakers on genealogical topics as well as discussions centered on a genealogical theme. The Abington School Board will meet Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Abington School District administration building, 970 Highland Ave.

On Wednesday, Aug. 14, Briar Bush Nature Center will hold its Hot S’Mores Nights at Alverthorpe Park. Use the Pavilion entrance to Alverthorpe Park off of Fox Chase Road.

This is the last Hot S’Mores Night of the season. Cost is $10 for adults; $5 for children.

On Saturday, Aug. 17, Whole Foods Market on the Fairway will host “Seasonal Cooking with Shayna," in which Shayna Marmar will highlight five seasonal vegetables and talk through 20 creative meal starter ideas. Marmar will also show how these ideas may be applied to other dishes. Marmar currently works for the 
Health Promotion Council, writing recipes and offering cooking education for 
various community projects. Cost is $10 per person.
