Food, Fall and Ukrainian Festivals, This Week in Abington

Check out a few events happening this week in Abington.

The Abington Police Athletic League will hold its International Food Festival on Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Philmont Country Club in Huntingdon Valley. The event will showcase signature dishes and beverages from more than 30 restaurants and caterers.

Abington Police Chief Bill Kelly said the annual event contributes to a “substantial percentage” of Abington PAL’s annual budget.

The Abington School Board will meet Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the school district administration building on Highland Avenue.

The Abington Board of Commissioners will meet Thursday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. at the township building.

Whole Foods Market, at 1575 The Fairway in Jenkintown, will host a free recycling event on Thursday, Oct. 10, for residents from noon until 5 p.m. “Anything with a Plug” will be accepted and recycled except for large appliances, smoke detectors and projection TVs. A $20 fee will apply to process glass (tube) TVs and computer monitors, but all other unwanted items will be accepted free of charge.

The Abington Township Fire Department will hold open houses at each of its fire companies this week as part of Fire Prevention Week. Visitors can check out each fire company’s equipment and volunteers will be on hand. For the schedule, click here.

The Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center at 700 Cedar Road, Jenkintown, will hold a festival Saturday, Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will include food and music. Admission is free, but there is a $5 fee to park. For more information on the event, click here.

Keswick Village will hold its second annual fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 12. Most shops will have extended hours and specials. The event will include games for the kids and live music. Visit the Keswick Village website here.
