'Corn Pickers,' the Commissioners and the 'Giving Grill,' This Week

See what's happening this week in Abington.

On Wednesday, July 10, Briar Bush Nature Center will hold its Hot S’Mores Nights. Take a hike, learn something new and enjoy s’mores around Briar Bush’s fire pit camp fire. The even happens every Wednesday through Aug. 14. This week’s theme is 'bears.' Cost is $10 for adults; $5 for children.

The Abington Art Center will host The Jersey Corn Pickers, a 5-piece Philadelphia-area band playing bluegrass and Americana music, on Thursday, July 11 at 7 p.m. as part of the art center’s Summer Concert Series. Grab a blanket and bring your family and friends to enjoy summer evenings filled with great music on the Sculpture Park’s Susquehanna Bank Stage. The 2013 concert series is co-presented with Abington Township Parks & Recreation and sponsored by PECO. Cost is $5 for adults; free for children.

The Physical Therapy and Wellness Institute of Glenside will hold its ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, July 11 at noon at 2285 Cross Road. Light lunch and beverages will be served.  The event is open to the public and all prior patients from the Paster Physical Therapy practice are encouraged to attend. The Abington Board of Commissioners will meet Thursday, July 11 at 8 p.m. at the township building. Click on the links below to see the agenda for each committee meeting for July.

Abington Township will hold a shredding event on Saturday, July 13 at the Abington Recycling Center on Florey Lane from 9 a.m. to noon.

Whole Foods Market, at 1575 The Fairway, will hold its monthly “Giving Grill” on Sunday, July 14. All of the proceeds from grilling burgers, hotdogs and portobello mushrooms this month will be given to Storybook Musical Theatre, which helps bring quality theatre to young children in the area. Costumed characters from Storybook Musical Theatre will be on hand. The event starts at 11:30 a.m.
