Art Center Fall Fest and Paws for a Cause, This Week
Check out a few events happening in and around Abington this week.
Briar Bush Nature Center will host “Life in the Bike Lane: The Joys and Challenges of Going Car-Less” on Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Steve Spindler from the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia will discuss his group’s experience using bicycles as a main mode of transportation. Cost is $3 for non-members; free for members.

The Abington Art Center will hold its Fall Fest on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will feature live music, a wine and beer garden and food. Face painting and a moon bounce will be available for children. The Art Market will also be open, featuring local artists.

Briar Bush Nature Center will hold its Autumn Fest on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. Learn about what animals eat through animal encounters, games and activities. No registration is necessary.

The Abington YMCA at 1073 Old York Road, will hold a community open house on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. The Y will host tours at the event, as well as arts and crafts, face painting, blood pressure readings and membership information.For more information, contact the Y at 215-884-9622. The Fox Chase Cancer Center in Northeast Philadelphia, will hold its 14th annual Paws for the Cause event to help raise money for cancer research on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 9:30 a.m. Over the years, the event has raised about $180,000 for cancer research and brings in about 300 to 4000 participants. The North Penn VFW, Post 676, in Jenkintown, will hold a beef and beer-style fundraiser for The Choristers on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. The Choristers are a Montgomery County-based group that undertakes several difficult musical endeavors in conjunction with an orchestra. For more about The Choristers, click here. Cost is $25 and is only open to those 21 and up.
