Video: Abington Couple Receives Environmental Leadership Award

Charles and Viola Carter receive the Robert W. Montgomery Award during the Abington Board of Commissioners meeting.

 

The Abington Board of Commissioners on Thursday awarded the seventh annual Robert W. Montgomery Environmental Leadership Award to Charles and Viola Carter of Willow Grove. 

Commissioner Wayne Luker said the Carters — who are relatively new to the township, having lived here only 14 years — are committed and dedicated volunteers who have helped foster responsible development, beautification projects and park cleanups.

Luker: “In that short span of time, they have committed and dedicated all of their time and energy to improving not only Ward 5, but all of the communities in Abington Township.”

Charles Carter is a retired structural engineer and is a member of the Abington Planning Commission; Viola Carter is a retired office manager. The couple has four children.

Charles Carter said he and his wife represent “an army of people” who help better the community by volunteering. He thanked the Abington Board of Commissioners, his neighbors, fellow volunteers and department heads.
