PSU Abington Baseball Gets Two 'Region Team' Nods

Penn State's catcher and DH are named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team.

Penn State Abington seniors Bill Parave and Mike Kerns have been named to the D3Baseball.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team earlier this week. Parave, a designated hitter, earned first-team honors and Kerns, a catcher, landed a spot on the second team.

Here’s a bit about both players:

Parave, of Pennsauken, N.J., earned first-team recognition as a designated hitter after excelling at both third base and on the mound for the Nittany Lions. A First Team All-NEAC Conference selection at first base and pitcher, and NEAC Player of the Year, the senior set a Penn State Abington record this season since joining the NEAC by reaching base safely in 22 consecutive games; he also had eight multiple-RBI games. He led the Nittany Lions by batting .399, hitting three home runs, and slugging .531. On the mound, Parave posted a 2.36 ERA, had three wins, including two complete games, and 36 strikeouts.

Kerns, of Warminster, is an Archbishop Wood graduate. He was a workhorse catcher this season for Penn State Abington. The senior caught 31 out of the 44 games Penn State Abington played this season. He posted a .476 batting average in all games he played at catcher, while his overall average on the season was .401. He led the squad in several offensive categories, including hits (65), doubles (14), RBIs (34), total bases (75), and on-base percentage (.459). He even belted a home run earlier in the season. Behind the plate, he threw out 15 of the 23 runners who tried to steal against him. Kerns had eight multiple-RBI games, and will leave the program as the career record holder (since joining the NEAC) in numerous categories like most hits (169), most doubles (42), and most total bases (230).
