Abington Runner Named Student-Athlete of the Week
A Penn State Abington athlete nabs a NEAC award two weeks in.
The North Eastern Athletic Conference named Penn State Abington women’s cross country runner Valarie Santangelo, of Abington, student-athlete of the week after a record-breaking outing for the Penn State Nittany Lions.
The freshman ran Saturday’s 5K SUNY Cobleskill Steven A. Warde Invitational in 19:29 (a pace of 6:16 per mile), taking fourth place individually out of 64 runners; she was also the first NEAC runner to cross the finish line.
Santangelo’s finish time also set the Abington record for best individual performance in a 5K race, beating the previous mark of 20:19.

The Nittany Lions finished fifth out of 10 teams, which included three other NEAC teams.
