Dr. Robert Rosenthal, Acting Supervisor of Pupil Services, has been named School Psychologist of the Year by the Association of School Psychologists in Pennsylvania (ASPP).

The Association of School Psychologists in Pennsylvania (ASPP) named Dr. Robert Rosenthal, Abington School District Acting Supervisor of Pupil Services, Psychologist of the Year.

This recognition was announced this month at the ASPP Conference in State College, Pa. The organization will also feature Rosenthal in the winter issue of its publication "InSight."

Rosenthal is beginning his 15th year in Abington School District, 13 of those years as a school psychologist at Copper Beech and Overlook elementary schools. Rosenthal was a member of the Overlook Elementary School staff when the school was selected as one of only seven schools in the state to pilot the Response to Instruction and Intervention (RtII) program. Rosenthal emerged as a strong leader and champion of the RtII model. Rosenthal has worked tirelessly to bring about a model of school wide positive behavior support to the district, providing a firm foundation for improving the mental health of all children.  

Rosenthal also has developed an expertise in the assessment and treatment of students with autism spectrum disorders and has presented numerous times at the state and national level on autism as well as on Response to Instruction and Intervention.  Dr. Julia Szarko, president of the Association of School Psychologists of Pennsylvania, wrote that Dr. Rosenthal truly represents the values of ASPP and is shown here presenting the award to Rosenthal.
