Eastern Donates to Red Cross

The Eastern Center for Arts and Technology SkillsUSA school-wide officers have chosen to support the American Red Cross in their mission to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

In November, the SkillsUSA Officers collected $450 from fellow students, faculty, administration and staff members. 

After witnessing the effects of the storm locally and watching news footage of the widespread damage, the SkillsUSA officers approached their advisor Karon Crickmore about a potential fundraiser. Crickmore supported their endeavor and the students immediately began their request of at least $1 per person. 

Early this morning, Michelle Wigianto, Major Gifts Associate from the American Red Cross, visited Eastern to accept the donation on behalf of the American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

The Eastern SkillsUSA school-wide AM officers who spearheaded this initiative were:

• Abigail Applebaum, culinary arts student/SkillsUSA Vice President/Springfield High School senior
• Chelsea Butler, culinary arts student/SkillsUSA Secretary/Abington High School senior 
• Amy Pertuset, computer network administration student/SkillsUSA Treasurer/Upper Moreland High School senior
• Marian Wiggins, cosmetology student/SkillsUSA President/Abington High School senior
• Shawn Moore, computer network administration student/SkillsUSA State Officer/Upper Moreland High School senior
• Jonathan Aurit, electronics engineering technology student/SkillsUSA Recorder/Lower Moreland High School senior.

• Alexander Husarenko, computer network administration student /SkillsUSA Vice President/Hatboro-Horsham High School senior
• Tatyana Leonova, commercial art student/SkillsUSA President/Lower Moreland High School senior 
• Miranda Cooper, allied health student/SkillsUSA Secretary/Abington High School senior.

"Hurricane Sandy has affected all of us here at Eastern in one way or another, but most of us have been very fortunate. We may have lost power temporarily or experienced some basement flooding, but at least have a roof over our heads Crickmore said. "Many people in New York City and in New Jersey were not as fortunate, and we want to help."
