Montco Prothonotary To Administer Oath of Allegiance

Abington will play home to a naturalization ceremony for those becoming U.S. residents.

They've worked hard to make it happen, but in just one week, there will be a large group of Montgomery County residents that will officially become United States citizens.

Montgomery County residents representing 31 different countries and cultures will become United States citizens on April 18 at 1 p.m. during a naturalization ceremony being held at Abington Senior High School, according to a release from the Prothanotary's office.

"Prothonotary Mark Levy will be administering the oath of allegiance to affirm the new citizens are willing to support and defend as well as declare loyalty to the United States and its Constitution," said Robin Beall, asssistant to Levy. "Citizens officially become a United States citizen once they take the Oath of Allegiance."

The Montgomery County prothonotary, who typically is busy recording and filing of legal papers for items such as: 

  • Administers oaths and affirmations
  • Change of name
  • Custody
  • District Justice appeals
  • Divorce
  • Driver’s license suspension appeals
  • Federal income tax liens
  • Judgments
  • Mechanics liens
  • Medical malpractice
  • Personal injury
  • Protection from abuse
  • School audits

said he was happy to welcome the country's newest citizens.

“The pride we all show as Americans is exemplified this day. For this to happen in the same County as Valley Forge, which helped shape our Nation, is second to none”, said Levy.

The Honorable Gary S. Silow, will preside over the court proceeding. County Commissioner, Bruce Castor, Abington Senior High School Principal, Jeffrey Fecher, student speakers and several other dignitaries will also be participating in the ceremony.

The public is invited to attend. There is no cost to witness the proceedings.
