Abington Dems to Hold Petition Signing Party, Food Drive

The Abington-Rockledge Democratic Committee is looking for signatures ... and food donations.

Tonight, the Abington-Rockledge Democratic Committee will hold its annual Petition Signing Party to help its candidates get on the ballot for the May 21 Primary.

The event will be held at The Brownstone at Sunrise of Abington at 7:30 p.m.

The ARDC is also incorporating a food drive for the local food cupboard that is in dire need of donations — the Abington Food Cupboard.

With over 20,000 registered Democratic voters in Abington and Rockledge, this year’s event has drawn statewide attention and will include Democratic candidates and incumbents for local seats on the Abington Township Board of Commissioners; the school board; the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas Judge; and the Democratic candidate for the Pennsylvania State Superior Court.

Invited guests include U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz; Montgomery County Commissioners Josh Shapiro and Leslie Richards; State Rep. Madeleine Dean; and Montgomery County Prothonotary Mark Levy.

The Petition Party has also drawn attention this year due to the unprecedented number of seats up on the Abington Township Board of Commissioners.  Nine of the 15 Abington Board seats will be voted on in November and ARDC Chair Michael Barbiero, said that the group is extremely energized and impressed by the slate of candidates that have come forward to serve the community.

ARDC invites all Abington and Rockledge Democratic voters to come to this free event to meet all the candidates and help them get on the ballot by signing its petitions.

Join the community and meet your Democratic candidates for 2013, bring a small donation for the food cupboard, and grab a bite to eat.

Sunrise of Abington is located at 1867 Susquehanna Road, Abington.
