Utility Pole Fire Causes Power Outages in Ardsley

Many were left without power in the Ardsley section of Abington Tuesday night.

A utility pole caught on fire Tuesday night in the Ardsley section of Abington causing power outages.

The incident happened at about 9 p.m. near the corner of Meyer and Garfield avenues. 

According to an Edge Hill Fire Co. firefighter at the scene, the primary insulation of the utility pole may have been faulty, leading to a fire inside the pole.

This may have been caused by a surge, he said.

No one was injured.

PECO crews were tending to the pole in the pouring rain at about 9:30 p.m.; several homes in the immediate area seemed to have lost power.

According to PECO's website, as of early Wednesday morning, there were about 1,700 customers without power in Montgomery County.
