Suspects in Christmas Morning Murder Caught

The suspects wanted in connection with a Christmas morning murder in Elkins Park have been arrested in Philadelphia.

Rayshon Carwheel, 24, and Ezra Childs, were arrested by the U.S. Marshall’s Fugitive Task Force and the Philadelphia Police Homicide Fugitive Unit in Philadelphia, according to a Jan. 3 Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office press release.

According to the release, Carwheel shot 25-year-old Robens Borno multiple times in the torso with a black hand gun in a home in the 1400 block of Beech Avenue in Elkins Park at about 1:55 a.m. on Christmas. Borno was taken to Einstein Hospital, where he later died.

Childs, who also had a gun, served as a lookout during the shooting, according to the release.

Borno was wrapping Christmas presents with his girlfriend and his girlfriend’s mother just prior to the shooting.

According to the press release, Carwheel’s former girlfriend, who is also the mother of his child, had recently broken up with Carwheel and began a relationship with Borno.

Carwheel was arraigned on first- and third-degree murder charges and has a preliminary hearing set for Jan. 9 at 10 a.m. in front of District Justice Christopher Cerski at 8230 Old York Road in Elkins Park.

Childs will likely be arraigned today for conspiracy to commit murder and carrying a firearm without a license. He is currently at the Cheltenham Police Department.
