Several Agencies Investigating Fire at Colonade Complex

Several items were taken from the building as part of an investigation.

The fire that damaged a leasing office building at the Colonade apartment complex in the Jenkintown section of Abington is under investigation.

According to Abington Fire Marshal Ken Clark, several agencies are assisting in the investigation, including the Pennsylvania State Police and Philadelphia fire marshal’s offices, Abington Police and the Montgomery County Detectives’ arson division.

“We’re working through the process; working with detectives and following up,” Clark said. “Some items [from the building] have been taken to be processed, which will take some time.”

Clark wouldn’t elaborate on what was taken.

The 2-alarm fire early Thursday morning injured a firefighter, according to Clark; the Abington Fire Co. firefighter was hit by a ladder, taken to Abington Memorial Hospital, and was later released.

The building, known as the Carriage House, is nestled between two apartment buildings and was not occupied when fire crews arrived. No one from the neighboring apartment buildings was injured and no one needed to be evacuated.

Clark said it’s a “close call” on whether the Carriage House will have to be demolished.
