Police: Vehicle Fire was Attempted Suicide

An early morning vehicle fire in the Ardsley section of Abington was a suicide attempt.

Abington Police said a vehicle fire at the Ardsley Community Center early Tuesday morning was an attempted suicide.

Abington Police Deputy Chief John Livingood said yesterday that a 35-year-old Abington woman tried to kill herself by setting her car on fire with herself in it at about 4 a.m.  The woman had two young children with her, but she told them to exit the car and "go play" prior to the fire.  The children are safe with a relative, according to Livingood.

“I guess she couldn’t make herself stay in the car, and she jumped out,” Livingood said. “She was admitted to the hospital, but not injured.”
