Philly Man Steals SUV from North Hills House Party, Police Say

The man lifted the keys from the clothes of someone swimming at the party, according to police.

Upper Dublin Police arrested a man who allegedly stole an SUV from a house party while drunk.

Dominick K. Washington, 21, of the 6700 block of North 15th Street, Philadelphia, was arrested Sunday, Aug. 25 shortly after midnight after police saw him almost strike another vehicle while driving near Walnut and Linden avenues.

According to police, Washington, who was driving a black Mitsubishi Endeavor, then tried to flag down the other vehicle; the driver of the other vehicle told Washington to park the SUV … and he had trouble doing so, as he could not get the vehicle into gear and could not turn the windshield wipers off, police said.

Washington said there had been a parking problem at the party he was coming from. Washington had bloodshot and glassy eyes, slurred speech, smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet, police said; he refused a PBT test.

Shortly after Washington was arrested, police received a call regarding a stolen Mitsubishi from the 200 block of Girard Avenue in Glenside. According to police, the complainant said the vehicle was stolen after he took his clothes off — which contained his keys — to go swimming. The complainant said he did not give Washington permission to drive the SUV.

According to police, Washington was verbally abusive while being processed, and at one point, spit on the floor of the processing room.

Washington was charged with felony theft, DUI, disorderly conduct and careless driving. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 10, according to court documents
