One Dead in Fire at Cheltenham Strip Mall
Fire spread to three stores at the Melrose Shopping Center on Cheltenham Avenue.
A security guard who reported a fire at the Melrose Shopping Center in Cheltenham on Thursday night has died as a result of injuries sustained in the blaze.
CBS Philadelphia reported that firefighters pulled the man from the blaze when they arrived at the scene, but that he died after being taken in "very serious condition" to Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. PhillyFireNews.com reported that the victim was in cardiac arrest when he was taken from the scene.
Firefighting crews were still working to completely extinguish the fire as daylight broke Friday morning.

Philly.com reports that the two-alarm fire began at about 11:00 p.m. in a beauty supply store at the shopping center.
Two firefighters reportedly suffered minor injuries in what CBS reported as a "small explosion near the rear of the building."

WTXF-TV reported that the fire spread to two adjacent stores before being brought under control.
The cause of the fire is reportedly under investigation.
