Music Box, Bird Box Thief Gets County Time

An Abington resident who stole almost $40K in unique items in 2011 was sentenced this week.

 

Andrew Sanders, 35, of the 2000 block of Roy Avenue, Abington, was sentenced to three to 23 months in county jail after pleading guilty to theft and criminal trespass, according to a phillyburbs.com story.

Sanders will begin his sentence Feb. 1; Judge Joseph Smyth was assigned to the case.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Sanders admitted in a statement to entering an apartment in the 1100 block of Old York Road and taking $39,400 worth of items … including a $5,000 gold music box; a black and ivory pen worth $4,500; four candlesticks valued at $8,400; and a silver bird box worth $4,000. According to police, Sanders entered the apartment in mid May, and again in July of 2011.

Sanders is related to the complainant, police said; he sold some of the items to an antique dealer located in Upper Moreland.
