Man Shot at Abington Apartment Complex

The man was transported to Abington Memorial Hospital ... and then arrested.

A man was shot in the leg following an altercation at the Mt. Vernon Gardens apartment complex early Tuesday morning.

According to Abington Police Deputy Chief John Livingood, two shots were fired from a small-caliber handgun during what he called "a domestic situation." One of those bullets hit Ulysses Hood, 44, of Philadelphia, in the leg; he was treated at Abington Memorial Hospital and later taken into custody, as he had an outstanding warrant out of Philadelphia.

Police arrived on the scene at about 3:30 a.m.

Though Hood has a Philadelphia address, Livingood said that it's possible that Hood was living at the apartment, which is near the corner of Easton Road and Mt. Vernon Gardens Drive.

Livingood said the incident is still under investigation; it's unclear who fired the gun, and whether the gun was purchased legally.

According to court documents, Hood had multiple drug arrests in 2007 and 2008; he entered an open guilty plea for possession with intent to deliver for one to two years of county time, plus two years of probation.

Instead of surrendering to start his sentence, he went on the run and a bench warrant was issued.
