Man Sentenced for AMH Theft, Almost Running Over Police

The man who police say stole money from a cash register at Abington Memorial Hospital and fled, almost striking a Jenkintown Police officer, was sentenced on Monday.

According to a Phillyburbs.com story, Judge William R. Carpenter sentenced Matthew L. Sieck, 20, of the 600 block of Harvard Square, Bensalem, to one to 23 months in jail and two years’ of probation. Sieck pleaded guilty.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Sieck stole the $250 from a cash register in the cafeteria area of the Lenfest Building in Abington Memorial Hospital shortly after noon on Jan. 2 and fled in a gold Buick. Two Jenkintown police officers saw the Buick turn westbound onto Township Line Road at Washington Lane. The two police officers attempted to block the Buick with their patrol cars.

Sieck was ordered to exit the car at gunpoint, but maneuvered his vehicle around the patrol cars; Sieck nearly struck a police officer. 

A witness at the hospital identified Sieck in a photo array, police said, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. 

According to court documents, Sieck was arrested for disorderly conduct in Middletown Township in December and sentenced to six months’ probation; he also pleaded guilty to robbery in Philadelphia in May and was sentenced to a maximum of four years’ probation.
