Man on 'Xanax Binge' Steals Socks, Police Say

Abington Police arrested a man late last month at Sears in Willow Grove Par mall after he allegedly stole some inexpensive socks, and attempted to steal a pair of earrings.

Alejandro Marentes Jr., 30, of Limekiln Pike, Philadelphia, was arrested Dec. 26 at 5:30 p.m. after Sears loss prevention officers said they saw Marentes select a $14 package of socks and put it in the pocket of a sweatshirt that he was carrying over his shoulder. Marentes also selected a $140 pair of earrings and put them in his pants pocket, police said.

According to police, Marentes was stopped outside of the store on the second level of the mall and was found to be in possession of the socks; it was determined that he discarded the earrings inside the store near the exit. The earrings were damaged and could not be resold.
