Man in Glenside Home Invasion Case Sentenced

The defendant in the June home invasion case in Glenside was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in state prison Monday.

Leroy Dade, of Philadelphia, pled guilty to robbery, burglary and aggravated assault — all felonies — after the first day of testimony at the Montgomery County Courthouse.

According to police, Dade, 54, entered a home in the 2300 block of Oakdale Avenue on June 15 through an unlocked door; a 17-year-old girl was home at the time. He threatened, but did not injure the girl.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said that toward the end of the invasion, Dade told the girl to lie on the floor and count to 200 as he left; Dade said he would hurt her if she got up, and kill her if she tried any tricks.

The girl dialed 9-1-1 on a landline in her home and put the phone down. The 9-1-1 operator heard the girl counting and initially thought it was a medical emergency. Police arrived a short time later.

The girl, along with other law enforcement officials, was commended by Ferman in a ceremony earlier today. More on that later.

Dade fled and injured an Abington police officer after he pinned the officer between the curb and Dade’s vehicle. The officer suffered a leg injury. Another Abington police officer was injured when Dade was tackled and taken down in Philadelphia.

Dade waived his preliminary hearing in June.

Dade has a lengthy criminal history. Prior to the robbery, he was living at Gaudenzia, a facility that provides residential correctional rehabilitation services in Philadelphia.
