Mall Employee Defrauds Store of Thousands, Police Say
A Philadelphia man is accused of defrauding the Willow Grove Macy's out of more than $4,000.
Abington Police arrested a Macy’s employee late last month after he allegedly defrauded his employer of more than $4,000 by making fraudulent returns.
Quan Clemons, 52, of Sprague Street, was arrested Aug. 21 at about 11:30 p.m. at Macy’s after a loss prevention officer said Clemons had used a Macy’s EZ Exchange Card to make a fraudulent return of about $200, police said. According to police, Clemons gave a statement admitting to ringing up the “return” without having any merchandise.
Clemons, according to police, also admitted to making two fraudulent returns on Aug. 19 in the amounts of $695 and $325; and three separate fraudulent returns on Aug. 5 totaling about $350.
Clemons also admitted to depriving the store of more than $1,000 by providing fraudulent discounts to friends, police said.
Macy’s was out a total of $4,265 as a result of Clemons’ actions, police said, which dated back to June.
The defendant was charged with four counts of felony theft and is currently being held at Montgomery County Prison; his preliminary hearing is scheduled for today at 12:30 p.m. in front of District Justice Juanita Price.
