Upper Dublin Police arrested a Wyncote man for DUI after a crash in the 1300 block of Fitzwatertown Road.
According to police, Donald Craig Hinkson Jr., 22, of Gribbel Road, was arrested after he struck a mailbox and a speed limit sign at about 1 a.m. on Monday. Following an investigation, police determined that Hinkson struck a curb at the intersection of Fitzwatertown Road and North Hills Avenue, and then traveled on the front lawn of the first two houses on the Upper Dublin side of the road, hitting the mailbox and the sign.
According to police, Hinkson’s vehicle, a maroon Pontiac Grand Prix, then came back onto the roadway and narrowly missed a parked vehicle in the street before coming to rest in the middle of the southbound lane of Fitzwatertown Road. The car’s airbags deployed.
Hinkson said he was not hurt and declined medical assistance. According to police, Hinkson smelled strongly of alcohol. A portable breath test indicated that Hinkson’s blood alcohol content was 0.206 percent.
Hinkson was arrested at 1:22 a.m. and taken to Holy Redeemer Hospital for a blood test, police said.
