Cheltenham Woman Accused of Murder Waives Preliminary Hearing

Ny Baker is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her husband in November.

A Cheltenham woman, who police say killed her husband in November, waived her preliminary hearing today before District Justice Elizabeth McHugh, and was remanded back to Montgomery County Prison; bail was denied, according to Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney John Gradel.

Ny Baker, 52, was charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder and possession of an instrument of crime in connection with the Nov. 22 death of her husband Darryl Baker.

According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, police responded to the 7400 block of Overhill Road shortly after 11:30 p.m. Police found Darryl Baker, 48, in the second-floor bedroom of the home, suffering from a stab wound to the chest.

Darryl Baker was gasping for air and could not speak with police; he was transported to Einstein Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. 

According to police, when Ny Baker was asked what happened, she said, “I stabbed him, I stabbed him.” Police found a 7-and-a-half inch black-handled bloodstained knife at the scene.

Assistant District Attorneys John Gradel and Laura Adshead will prosecute the case.

Ny Baker is scheduled to be formally arraigned Jan. 15 at 9:30 a.m., according to court documents.
