Alleged Coke Dealer Arrested in North Hills

The Philadelphia resident has a lengthy criminal history.

Abington Police arrested a Philadelphia man last month on felony drug charges in North Hills.

Chavez Darryl ‘Swerve’ Brown, 28, of Arlington Street, Philadelphia, was arrested Jan. 5 just before 3 p.m. following a traffic stop near the corner of Spruce and Tennis avenues while he was driving a Dodge Magnum.

According to police, Brown was in possession of $615 and a search of the Magnum yielded a knotted plastic bag containing marijuana and four cell phones.

A more thorough search at the Abington Police station yielded a plastic knotted bag in Brown’s underwear, which contained 24 small purple Ziploc baggies containing confirmed cocaine, police said.

The amount of cocaine recovered, the manner in which it was packaged, and the presence of four cell phones, is consistent with possession with intent to deliver, police said.

Brown has a lengthy criminal history. According to court documents, he was arrested in August 2011 in Philadelphia for possession with intent to deliver — a trial is set for March 27.

He was also arrested in Philadelphia for possession with intent to deliver in June 2005 and pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to eight to 18 months. And Brown was also arrested in February 2006, again in Montgomery County, for possession with intent to deliver. He was sentenced to 11 to 23 months in jail and three years’ probation.

Brown's preliminary hearing for the January arrest is scheduled for April 5 at 1:30 p.m. in front of District Justict Juanita Price.
