Abington Police Reports, Leap Year Edition

The following police reports were taken from the Abington Police records room on the rarest of days, Feb. 29.

 

DUI … Alexander To, 26, of the 100 block of Log Pond Drive, Horsham, was arrested Jan. 1 at 3:21 a.m. following a traffic stop near the corner of Old Welsh Road and Reservoir Avenue after he was seen speeding and driving with a malfunctioning brake light, police said. According to police, To smelled of alcohol and had glassy and bloodshot eyes — and he had crumbs on his shirt and lap from a sandwich he was eating. To said he had five drinks; he failed a field sobriety test and had a blood alcohol content of 0.169 percent, police said.

Drug possession … John Opanel, 23, of the 2900 block of Pickerton Road, Warrington, was arrested Jan. 7 at 7:36 p.m. following a traffic stop near the corner of Edge Hill Road and Hazel Avenue after he was seen driving with a malfunctioning third brake light, police said. According to police, there was an open, clear baggie consistent with the packaging of narcotics on the passenger side floor. A K-9 found a confirmed marijuana cigarette in the center console, and two pills of confirmed oxycodone in the passenger side door card, police said.

DUI … David Peter Taylor, 25, of the unit block of Cheltfield Road, Glenside, was arrested Jan. 8 at 2:42 a.m. following a traffic stop for driving the wrong way on several one-way streets after he was seen leaving Jerzee’s bar on Mount Carmel Avenue, police said. According to police, Taylor smelled of alcohol, had glassy and bloodshot eyes and was slurring. When he was asked how much he had to drink, Taylor replied, “Too much.” He failed two field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content of 0.186 percent.

DUI … Robert Martinelli, 20, of the 100 block of North Central Avenue, Rockledge, was arrested Jan. 13 at 2:42 a.m. following a traffic stop for making an illegal turn in the corner of Easton and Edge Hill roads, police said. According to police, Martinelli smelled of alcohol, had glassy and bloodshot eyes, was slurring his speech and failed four field sobriety tests. Martinelli had a blood alcohol content of 0.182 percent and his blood tested positive for the presence of marijuana, police said.

Possession of a small amount of marijuana and driving without a license … Samuel M. Polection, 32, of the 1000 block of East Southampton Street, Wyndmoor, was arrested Jan. 15 following a traffic stop for having a malfunctioning brake light near the corner of Easton Road and Norwood Avenue, police said. According to police, Polection had 4.55 grams of marijuana under the driver’s seat and was driving with a suspended license. There was also an active arrest warrant out for Polection.

DUI … Maureen Elwood, 41, of the 2800 block of Jenkintown Road, Glenside, was arrested Jan. 18 at 1:30 a.m. after she made an illegal turn in the corner of Old York Road and Washington Lane, police said. According to police, Elwood had a blood alcohol content of 0.160 percent.

Drug possession … Sean Bergbauer, 26, of the unit block of Reiffs Mill Road, Ambler; and Jessica Marburger, 27, of the unit block of Ambler Road, Ambler, were arrested Jan. 20 at 11:51 p.m. in the parking lot of the 19th Hole Lounge on Jenkintown Road after they were seen drinking a 40 of malt liquor in a parked car, police said. According to police, the vehicle smelled of marijuana; police found a pouch under the passenger side seat that had a marijuana pipe in it containing marijuana residue. Bergbauer also said that there was a “straight,” which is slang for crack pipe, in the center console. The pipe tested positive for cocaine residue, police said.  

DUI …Matthew LaRosa, 25, of the 4000 block of Davisville Road, Hatboro, was arrested Jan. 21 at 3:37 a.m. following a traffic stop near the corner of Easton Road and Mildred Avenue for driving without his headlights on, police said. According to police, LaRosa hit the curb as he was pulling over, and spun the vehicle into a parking lot. LaRosa smelled of alcohol, had glassy and bloodshot eyes, said he had “four beers” and had a blood alcohol content of 0.128 percent.

DUI … Stanley Stevens, 52, of the 3200 block of North 13th Street, Philadelphia, was arrested Jan. 26 at 5:36 p.m. following a traffic stop near the corner of Easton Road and Mildred Avenue for driving without a registration sticker displayed, police said. According to police, there were several cans of Steel Reserve beer scattered in the vehicle; he failed a field sobriety test and had a blood alcohol content of 0.083 percent.

DUI and reckless driving … Lewis Mendez, 18, of the 2000 block of Devereaux Avenue, Philadelphia, was arrested Jan. 28 at 8:15 p.m. following a 1-car crash in the corner of Huntingdon Pike and Cedar Road, police said. According to police, Mendez admitted to drinking, had a blood alcohol content of 0.06 percent and was released into the custody of relatives.

Possession of a small amount of marijuana … Kelli Concannon, 35, of the 1400 block of Arline Avenue, Roslyn, was arrested Jan. 29 at 2:33 a.m. after she was seen sitting in the passenger seat of a car parked in the shoulder of Pershing Avenue near Birchwood Avenue, police said. According to police, the glove box was open and it contained confirmed marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Concannon had a plastic container of marijuana in her sweater pocket. According to police, Concannon said she was the owner of the vehicle and admitted that all of the marijuana and the drug paraphernalia was hers.

Criminal mischief and disorderly conduct … Peter Chekemain, 21, of the 100 block of Lewisville Court, Phoenixville, was arrested Feb. 10 at 1:35 a.m. after he was seen kicking and damaging a wooden fence near Athena restaurant in the 200 block of Keswick Avenue, police said. Police found Chekemain near the Keswick Tavern; he said he kicked the fence because he was mad and had too much to drink.

Retail theft … Victor Kevin Hankins, 55, of the 500 block of Parnell Place, Philadelphia, was arrested Feb. 12 at 10:25 a.m. in Acme in the 300 block of Old York Road after he attempted to leave the store without paying for $201 worth of merchandise, police said.

Retail theft … Craig Massey, 41, of the 700 block of Adams Avenue, Philadelphia, was arrested Feb. 12 at 4:25 p.m. in the 900 block of Old York Road after he stole a bottle of Bombay gin and a bottle of Absolut vodka, totaling $48, and fled in a Honda SUV, police said. He was later stopped in the SUV. According to police, Massey was wanted for a probation violation and has three prior convictions for retail theft.
