Stolen textbooks at MCCC, stolen rings and some honest DUI defendants

 

Reckless endangerment … On Sept. 12 at 4:10 p.m. officers responded to Montgomery County Community College for a report that someone was trying to sell four stolen textbooks to the bookstore. Andrew Choma, 28, of the 200 block of Runner Street, Jenkintown, became nervous and ran to a silver Hyundai and almost struck the MCCC Security vehicle while fleeing in his car. He was located driving north on Butler Pike, stopped by an Ambler police officer, and taken into custody. Three additional textbooks were located in his vehicle bringing the value of the stolen books to $1,484. He was charged with two counts of recklessly endangering another person, theft and receiving stolen property. Choma was arraigned by District Justice Borek and bail was set at $10,000. He was unable to post bail and was remanded to Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

DUI … Robin Ann Farr, of the 2000 block of Roy Avenue, Abington, was arrested Sept. 13 at 7:55 p.m. near the corner of Susquehanna Road and Virginia Drive following the report of a reckless driver, police said. According to police, Farr had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and an overwhelming odor of alcohol on her breath and her person. Farr had a blood alcohol content of 0.172 percent

DUI … Brandon Bradwell, 25, of East Chelten Avenue, Philadelphia, was arrested Aug. 17 at 9:50 p.m. following a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Old York Road for driving without his headlights on, police said. According to police, when Bradwell was told that his headlights weren’t on, he still had problems putting them on. Bradwell’s vehicle smelled of freshly burnt marijuana. When asked the last time he smoked marijuana, Bradwell said, “six minutes ago.” Bradwell failed a field sobriety test; his blood tested positive for the presence of Delta-9 THC. 

DUI and careless driving … Simon Jankovic, 61, of Deerrun Road, Philadelphia, was arrested Aug. 17 at 9:59 p.m. following a traffic stop near the corner of Susquehanna Road and Lindsay Lane for swerving and for stopping for no reason, police said. According to police, Jankovic had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and said he was coming from the Drake Tavern. During a field sobriety test, Jankovic said, “Just take me in.” Jankovic had a blood alcohol content of 0.137 percent and he also had a small bag of marijuana in his possession.

DUI and reckless driving … David Dobson, 58, of Greenwood Avenue, Wyncote, was arrested Aug. 8 at 11:39 p.m. following a 2-car crash in the 2100 block of Jenkintown Road, police said. According to police, the driver of a Ford Focus (Dobson) rear-ended a Buick. Dobson appeared to be intoxicated. Dobson said he was coming from a bar on Easton Road. He had slurred speech, smelled of alcohol, failed two field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content of 0.195 percent.

DUI … Matthew Rankin, 23, of McClellan Street, Philadelphia, was arrested July 26 at 1:20 a.m. near the corner of Mt. Carmel Avenue and Limekiln Pike following a traffic stop for driving with a malfunctioning headlight, police said. According to police, Rankin smelled of alcohol, had glassy and bloodshot eyes and when asked how much he had to drink, Rankin said, “Quite a few. I probably shouldn’t be driving.” Rankin was unsteady on his feet, failed a field sobriety test and had a blood alcohol content of 0.141 percent, police said.

DUI … Claudette Hill, 65, of Phipps Avenue, Willow Grove, was arrested July 26 at 12:31 a.m. near the corner of Limekiln Pike and Tennis Avenue following a traffic stop for swerving and tapping her brakes repeatedly, police said. According to police, Hill smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and had an extremely unsteady gait. Hill had trouble maintaining balance, nearly falling several times, failed several field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content of 0.222 percent.

Theft … An arrest warrant was issued July 24 for Paulette M. Manning, 52, of Rugby Street, Philadelphia, after she admitted to stealing more than $200 worth of rings and other jewelry from a home in the 1900 block of Edge Hill Road while working as a home health aid, police said. According to police, Manning said she needed to use the bathroom and stole the jewelry from a second-floor bedroom; there was a bathroom on the first floor.

Possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia … Dylan Goetter, 26, of Drexel Avenue, Dresher, was arrested July 15 at 10:41 a.m. following a traffic stop near the corner of Limekiln Pike and Tennis Avenue in which he was a passenger, police said. According to police, Goetter had a hypodermic needle in his pants pocket for which he had no prescription.

Criminal trespass … John Gelsebach, 24, of Maplewood Avenue, Hatfield, Pa., was arrested July 13 after he admitted his role in stealing $950 worth of power tools from a garage in the 1400 block of Jericho Road, police said.

Felony drug possession … Bob Thomas, 23, of Lindenhurst Street, Philadelphia, was arrested July 7 at 12:44 a.m. at a DUI checkpoint in the 700 block of Huntingdon Pike, police said. According to police, Thomas’ vehicle smelled of marijuana. Thomas admitted to having an ounce of marijuana in his vehicle; police found 33.18 grams of marijuana, a marijuana grinder and a scale in Thomas’ vehicle.

DUI, drug possession and driving without a license … Lennies I. Urena, 25, of North 9th Street, Philadelphia, was arrested June 29 at 2:26 a.m. following a traffic stop near the corner of Highland and Jenkintown roads for driving with a broken registration tag light and for swerving; she almost hit several parked cars, police said. According to police, Urena smelled slightly of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and had slurred speech. She said she was coming from work at the 19th Hole on Jenkintown Road. A blood test revealed the presence of alprazolam, alpha-hydroxyalprazolam and methadone in her system; she had several pills of alprazolam, also known as Xanax, methadone and clonazepam in her purse, for which she had no prescription, police said.

DUI and reckless driving … Joseph Thomas Mumm, 37, of Woodland Road, Abington, was arrested June 9 at 7:12 p.m. near the corner of Arbuta and Susquehanna roads following a domestic dispute call to his residence, police said. According to police, the complainant said that Mumm, her soon-to-be ex-husband, threw a bottle of beer at her, missing her head, following an argument. Mumm then fled in a blue Mini Cooper. According to police, Mumm was stopped about 1.5 miles from his residence; he smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech, failed four field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content of 0.323 percent.
