Abington Police: Lock Your Car Doors

The Abington Police Department has a simple message for residents: hit the “lock” button.

According to Abington Police, there were several thefts from parked vehicles in the township during August — a majority of these thefts happened in the Huntingdon Valley and Elkins Park sections of the township.

The thefts included everything from GPS units to sunglasses to spare change, and almost all of the thefts happened because the vehicle was unlocked, police said.

Police are asking residents to lock their vehicles’ doors and to secure all valuable items in the trunk or in the glove box.

Thieves are drawn to areas where it’s easy to steal because of unlocked doors and valuables left in plain view, Abington Police said in a press release, and once in the area, thieves may be emboldened to commit other crimes such as burglary.

On the upside, Abington and Rockledge police departments have made arrests in the Huntingdon Valley and Elkins Park crimes.
